Wolverley Camp Archives were invited to the Wolverley Ladies Fellowship meeting
on Monday 27th February, where we were able to show the members some of the history
from Wolverley Camp. With the help of Dave Andrews everyone enjoyed watching both
CD’s which Ernie Ward, ex RAPC, has helped to produce. After watching these
Dave helped by reading a few interesting items from the archives.
This was followed afterwards by the members asking numerous questions, which
our friend, Martin Collins who had come along in American uniform helped to answer.
As the evening came to a close, the Ladies Fellowship very kindly made a donation for our planned memorial to the 52nd General Hospital in Wolverley church. |

A group called Jericho has recently submitted plans to allow them to
develop the derelict tunnels at the former Rover Works, Kingsford.
They plan to construct a training site in and around the tunnels to
provide residential training for ex-offenders, ex-addicts, the homeless
and those with chronic illnesses. Together with environmental and social
reasons, Wolverley Camp opposes these plans from an historical point of
view. Construction of the tunnels was completed early in 1943 and
coincided with the American army’s occupation of Wolverley Camp.
It has been claimed that construction of the 3 miles of tunnels was
one of the biggest war time feats in factory construction.
If you would like to help us save this historical war time site please e-mail us through the contact pages of this site or log onto www.drakelow.info Mike Webster.
