Curator of Historical Collections Mr Eric v.d. Luft Ph.D., has recently written and published
“SUNY Upstate Medical University, A Pictorial History”. Mr Luft has been Curator
of Historical Collections at the University’s Health Science Library since 1987. He has
previously written three books, edited a number of others and written dozens of articles for
professional journals. He is also listed in “Who’s Who in America” and “Who’s
Who in the World”.
The book tells the history of SUNY Upstate Medical University and how it has enriched medicine and society around the world since 1834. It also tells the story of Elizabeth Blackwell, the world’s first female physician.
A Pictorial History - Written by Eric v.d. Luft.Typical of the book, numerous photographs in chapter seven help to give an insight into life at the US Army’s 52nd General Hospital, at Camp Wolverley. This was the medical unit affiliated to, and raised by the University during the Second World War.Some time ago, I was pleased to help Cookley man, Norman Tilt, send an autographed baseball, which he had treasured for 58 years, to the University’s Historical Collections. A picture of the ball, which is seen in chapter seven, prompted us to ask Mr Luft to donate a copy of his book to Kidderminster library. He welcomed our suggestion, because not only has he autographed the copy which will soon be available in the reference section, he has very kindly donated one to the Wolverley Camp Archives. For anyone wishing to purchase a copy, they should contact the printers at, Gegensatz Press, 108 Deborah Lane, North Syracuse, NY 13212, U.S.A. www.gegensatzpress.com |

"At the members meeting of The Wolverley and Cookley Historical Society on
26th September, we were treated to a feast of Wolverley nostalgia. Mike
Webster brought some of his vast collection of memorabilia of Wolverley Camp.
He gave us an excellent presentation with two DVD's of photographs and an
American film taken at Wolverley camp during the Second World War.
All this provoked much discussion with the morning ending much too soon,
we could have gone on for hours."

Ernie Ward and Jo Grant, kindly helped to produce the two DVD's specially for this occasion. Produced through Wolverley Camp Archives they are available for viewing by similar groups in the area. Unfortunately we have no plans to release them for sale to the general public at the moment. Mike Webster.
