Congratulations to Wolverley Women's Institute and the unveiling of the tapestry
they made showing scenes from the Parish of Wolverley. Everyone can admire their
work as the tapestry now hangs in the village church. The tapestry attracted a
lot of local interest on the 2nd October when it was first displayed in Wolverley's
Memorial Hall. “Wolverley Camp Archives” we are pleased to have been given the opportunity
to display a small amount of its collection on such a memorable occasion. The display
certainly caused a lot of local interest as former RAPC member Ernie Ward and BBC TV's
Young Reporter of the Year, Jo Grant were on hand to answer peoples questions.

Here's the latest news on Jo Grant. "Since winning the BBC Midland TV's Young Reporter of the Year Award last year many doors have opened to me. I have been working at the BBC on a casual contract and am now studying for a post-graduate diploma in Broadcast Journalism at the University of Central England, in Birmingham. The BBC nominated me for "Newcomer of the Year" in the Midlands Press awards in April this year. I was short-listed and came second! I am so lucky that my dreams of a career in broadcasting are slowly becoming a reality. I would like to thank all those who have helped me on my way, especially Mike Webster and of course the amazing history of the 52nd General Hospital.

For many months now members of Wolverley's Women's Institute have been busy making a Parish Map of Wolverley depicting the changes in buildings and their uses in the village during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. The W.I. intend to display the map in the Memorial Hall, Wolverley, between 2.00 p.m. and 4.30 p.m. on Saturday 2nd October 2004. This will form part of a wider exhibition of our village through artefacts and photographs by local organisations. Due to my research of Wolverley Camp I have been invited to display a number of newspaper cuttings, photographs and memorabilia and video footage taken at the camp, presently held in the Wolverley Camp Archives. Former Royal Army Pay Corps, Corporal Ernie Ward has agreed to help along with Joe Grant BBC TV's Midlands Today, "Young Reporter of the Year" Perhaps you have an interesting story to add to the Wolverley Camp Archives. |
