For those of you who are interested in discovering more about American Camps in the area around Wolverley Camp, you might be interested in a new book. Local authors Adrian and Neil Turley have just published a fascinating book entitled "The US Army in South-East Shropshire 1944'. We would be glad to pass on your requests for any further information.

The author of "wolverleycamp" would very much like to pass on his thanks to two wonderful people who are giving him a tremendous amount of help at the moment. Firstly I would like to mention former RAPC corporal Ernie Ward, for his tireless work in collating on computer, the many photographs I have received over the last few years, I am sure many of you will appreciate the quality of such old photographs through his efforts. Thank you Ernie.

The second person is Barbara Harris over in America, thanks to her tireless work in locating, copying and sending so much historical information about the 52nd General Hospital. Everything she sends helps in bringing to life the book I am currently writing. Thank you Barbara.

Bill Broun has recently made his first visit to the former Wolverley Camp, since he was paid the grand sum of 39 shillings a week as a conscripted soldier serving with the 548th Independent Company, RASC.

Bill certainty has plenty of happy memories to tell of the days he spent at the camp all those years ago. He has promised to send me some more information once he and his wife Tania return to the States, after their visit to a number of Eastern European countries. Bon-voyage.

We at "wolverleycamp" wish them both well and look forward, perhaps to a longer visit next year. (We might even get that pint in the Queenshead Bill!).

Word has it that everyone who turned up for Gail's latest reunion had a great time reminiscing about his or her school days. Lots of names of former school friends were remembered along with numerous tales being told of long forgotten exploits at Sion Hill.

We at www.WolverleyCamp.org.uk look forward to our next reunion sometime during October in the hope we can persuade even more former pupils to join us.

Bill Broun, ex RASC soldier, has been telling us of his visit to a number of European countries during the next few weeks. Bill and his wife Tonia are planning to spend a few weeks touring just a few of the former eastern block countries.

Their European visit will end in Great Britain when they plan to stay and visit Bill's Sister in the midlands for a short time. We are looking forward to his visit, here at "Wolverley Camp", because Bill has promised to visit us when hopefully he can enjoy a pint of cider in the "Queens Head". We will keep you updated regarding Bill and Tonia's visit as and when it happens.

Mike Webster.
